My darling new neighbors had a baby girl just in time for Christmas! And I was so lucky to get to meet and snuggle her for a couple of hours in the new year. Newborn photos of my own kids have become even more special as they have gotten older. When my youngest was teeny tiny I remember holding her as she slept and staring at her trying to memorize all of her little details, sure I could never forget them. Well, fast forward a few years and it's surprisingly hard to recall those details again. I'm so glad I've got picture to help remember. And she loves to look through her book and hear what she was like as a baby.

There's also something about wintertime sessions that feels so cozy! I think we sometimes do a better job at slowing down a bit and that's the perfect pace for a newborn session. These friends were such a delight to photograph - and when mom needed to nurse baby sister for a bit, I got to hang out and read books with her adorable big bro! Such a great morning!

Some babies sleep the whole time I'm shooting the session, and others save their long nap for half an hour after I leave. But that's the beauty of lifestyle sessions (in addition to more true-to-life photos). Your baby doesn't need to be deep asleep the whole time! We can get beautiful photos with wide eyes, sleepy eyes, and closed eyes. And I think I say this every time, but it really is such a privilege to get to be a part of such big moments in people's lives. This session was, of course, no exception.
